Our story

Getting on the water in Austin used to mean owning the gear or queueing for it — an hour in the blistering heat at Lady Bird Lake, a paper waiver signed standing in line, and one stretch of water to use it on.

We started Greenbelt Outdoors in 2021, out of the COVID-era squeeze on inflatable water gear around Austin and how little of it you could actually rent. So we built the thing we wanted: Adventure Crate, a shipping-container kiosk of smart lockers you open with a code sent to your phone. No more waiting in lines.

Sign the digital waiver, send a photo of yourself holding your government ID, and access arrives by text. No counter, no queue, nobody to wait for.

Every rental goes out complete — paddleboard or kayak with paddle, fin and an Astral Designs life jacket. Manual pumps available, so you can deflate and pack down. That means you are not tied to one launch: take the gear wherever you are going within your rental window.

There is a second reason to rent. Inflatable paddleboards are bought online, which means you do not know what you have until it turns up at your door. We only stock premium gear — the boards and boats you would actually want to own — so renting ours is how you spend a real day on the exact one you are considering, before you buy it.
